“Boston Celtics becomes First ever Team to Record Zero Free Throws in NBA a Game”

The Boston Celtics achieved an unusual milestone in their recent basketball game against the Milwaukee Bucks. They became the first team in NBA history to shoot no free throws in a game, while the Bucks only shot two.

This created a new record for the fewest total free throws ever shot during an NBA game. The Bucks committed only four fouls throughout the game, which is the fewest in NBA history. Bucks head coach Doc Rivers was astonished by the game’s duration, which was only one hour and 57 minutes, and the minimal number of free throws shot.

He thought the halftime stats were unbelievable and added that he needed the full game to believe it. The NBA made a rule change ahead of the 2021-22 season, stating that referees should not award fouls drawn by players using “overt, abrupt, or abnormal non-basketball moves.” James Harden, Trae Young, and Luka Dončić were the players who consistently drew fouls with unusual shooting motions that were within the rules at the time. As a result, the NBA made the rule change to eliminate this behavior.

The previous record for low free throws shot by a team during a game was one, which was jointly held by the Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks. The lowest combined total was 11, set by the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic in 2019.

Bucks guard Damian Lillard noted that the recent trend is that fouls are no longer considered a part of the game. He stated that he had instances where he thought he was fouled but didn’t get called. Conversely, there were times when he was surprised that he didn’t get a foul call. Lillard believes that the referees are letting the players play instead of calling fouls.
