Galveston Claps Back at Charles Barkley’s Criticism of “Dirty” Beaches, Defends Scenic Shoreline

Charles Barkley’s recent jab at Galveston’s “dirty” beaches on national television has sparked a strong response from the Texas city, which prides itself on its beautiful shoreline. During the NBA on TNT broadcast, Barkley criticized the New Orleans Pelicans for their poor performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder, suggesting the team didn’t deserve a trip to a nice beach and jokingly recommended a trip to Galveston instead.

The city’s response was quick and firm, with Visit Galveston CEO Kimberly Danesi emphasizing that Galveston offers much more than Barkley might think. She highlighted the city’s sun-kissed beaches, luxurious resorts, exclusive spas, and world-class attractions, as well as exceptional seafood.

Barkley’s comments also drew a response from Beyoncé’s mom, Tina, who was born and raised in Galveston. She defended her hometown on Instagram, reminding Barkley not to mess with Texas.

Despite the criticism, Galveston continues to stand by its beautiful beaches, maintained year-round by a dedicated coastal team and lifeguards. As the Pelicans’ season ends, they might consider a visit to the vibrant city.
