LeBron James Shares Disbelief Over Officials’ Call in Lakers’ Loss to Warriors

LeBron James, a player for the Los Angeles Lakers, shared his thoughts after his team lost to the Golden State Warriors in an exciting game on Saturday night.

The Warriors won the game and reclaimed their position as the 9th seed. The game was thrilling, but the ending was anticlimactic due to several extended reviews and shot clock malfunctions.

During one of the reviews, a three-point basket by James was taken away after officials determined that his foot was out of bounds. After the game, James expressed his surprise at this call, saying it had never been made before in that way.

Specifically, he was referring to officials being able to review a play from several possessions ago, which is what happened in this instance.

Crew Chief David Guthrie was asked about this play in a Pool Report with Khobi Price of the Southern California News Group. Guthrie provided following explanation:

“James’ left foot is out of bounds as he beings to shoot. Yes, it is reviewable at that time. The rule is Rule 13, Section II(f)(3): Whether the shooter committed a boundary line violation, the replay center official will only look at the position of the player’s feet at the moment they touch the floor immediately prior to the release of the shot. This can be applied during other replay triggers as well.”
