Matt Barnes Endorses JJ Redick for Lakers Coaching Job

Former Lakers player Matt Barnes weighed in on the Los Angeles Lakers’ coaching vacancy, expressing his confidence in JJ Redick’s ability to handle the pressure. Barnes, speaking at LAX, praised Redick’s basketball IQ and described him as having a “great basketball mind.”

With the Lakers seeking a new head coach following Darvin Ham’s departure, Barnes believes Redick deserves consideration for the position. Acknowledging the challenges that come with coaching the Lakers, Barnes emphasized the importance of having tough skin for whoever takes on the role.

While Barnes acknowledged his friendship with Redick, he maintained that his endorsement was not biased, highlighting Redick’s suitability for the job. Redick’s name has been among those rumored for the coaching position, along with other candidates like Kenny Atkinson and Ty Lue.

Barnes also entertained the idea of LeBron James becoming a player/coach but acknowledged that it’s uncertain whether James will return next season as a player, let alone in a coaching capacity.
