“Shaq’s No. 32 jersey retired by Orlando Magic, the first jersey retirement in the team’s history”

The Orlando Magic was not a great team in its first three seasons, with a poor record of 70-176. However, things changed when they selected Shaquille O’Neal as the No.1 pick in the 1992 NBA Draft.

He led the team to a .500 record as a rookie, and with Penny Hardaway, the team reached the NBA Finals by his third season. Shaq’s presence put the Orlando Magic franchise on the map, and after many years, his No. 32 jersey was retired as part of the organization’s 35th-anniversary celebration.

Shaq was grateful to the fans and people of Orlando, where he spent most of his professional life. He said that he never thought this day would happen, and it was an honor to be recognized.

Although Shaq left the team after four seasons and joined the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won three NBA titles, the Orlando Magic understood his impact on the team and retired his number.

Shaq’s No. 32 jersey now hangs in the rafters, and he joins Wilt Chamberlain and Pete Marivich as the only players with their jerseys retired by three different franchises.
