Shaquille O’Neal calls Rudy Gobert an overrated defender

Shaquille O’Neal has been critical of Rudy Gobert’s performance as a center for the Minnesota Timberwolves. When Gobert signed a contract worth $205 million for five years with the Utah Jazz, O’Neal was one of the people who felt that he was being paid too much.

On a recent episode of The Big Podcast, O’Neal once again shared his thoughts on the Timberwolves star. He believes that Gobert, who has won the Defensive Player of the Year award three times and is expected to win it again this year, is an overrated defender.

O’Neal thinks that Gobert’s defense is not impressive, and that he only looks good because he is often matched against weaker players. O’Neal explained that Gobert doesn’t always perform well against more skilled players like Nikola Jokić because he has to be engaged. When Gobert is up against someone less skilled, O’Neal believes it’s easy for him to block their shots due to his height.

“You want to impress me? Hold Joker under 15 points… All that weak-side blocking sh–, it’s cool, but it’s not going to work against guys like me, Joker and Joel Embiid,” he added.
