The Adare native and five-time All-Ireland champion captain wed his longtime sweetheart Louise Cantillon on Friday in the afternoon at Holy Trinity Abbey Church.

To go to the stunning wedding reception site, the five-star Adare Manor estate for their black-tie party, the happy couple and their guests simply had to cross the road.

After exchanging vows in front of their nearest and dearest in the warm glow of an autumn afternoon, the happy couple posed for photographs in front of the Holy Trinity Abbey Church in Adare.

After the hurler proposed in December 2021 while the two were enjoying a morning stroll on a Kerry beach, the Today FM and TG4 presenter and Declan had been engaged for a few years ahead of their big day. This is in preparation for their wedding.

They were just 15 and 16 when they first met at a teen nightclub at the Garryowen Rugby Club in Limerick, and it wasn’t until they were 18 that they started dating.

Louise, a certified teacher, made the decision to devote all of her time to broadcasting soon before the epidemic. She had previously worked as a presenter for Spin South West and TG4, but subsequently took the plunge and relocated to Dublin to work for TG4 and join Today FM.

The Liam MacCarthy Cup was the guest of honour during the reception when guests first arrived in the main function hall.

Along with Declan’s colleagues Cian Lynch, Aaron Gillane, Graeme Mulcahy, Mike and Peter Casey, The Coronas lead vocalist Danny O’Reilly and hurling manager John Kiely attended the event.

They were joined by other of Louise’s TG4 coworkers, including Siomha Ni Ruairc and Darragh O’Keefe.

Louise previously stated to RSVP Magazine: “We don’t think we are big profile at all. Despite the fact that we both have gained recognition in our separate sectors of GAA and TV and radio broadcasting. Declan was utterly unaccustomed to filling in for a photo session like this, even today.

“I constantly wonder why people are interested in us, and it almost makes me feel embarrassed when they compliment us or claim we are in the spotlight.

Declan should definitely be the centre of attention, but I disagree. And the reason why both of us would be baffles me even more. Having said that, I am incredibly appreciative of our wonderful days spent together. Declan decided to propose to Louise when they were out for a wintertime stroll on Chom Dhíneol.

Sharing the Joy

As the happy couple greeted visitors outside the church in the glorious sunlight with temperatures reaching as high as 28° at lunchtime, the beaming bride posed for photographs with her new husband. American tourists and other observers numbering up to 50 had gathered outside the church to witness the happy couple’s entrance as husband and wife.

The gaeilgeoir bride at the moment uploaded a photo to her Instagram account with the caption: “Extra sparkly sunrise ar Chom Dhíneol ar maidin.” The post included pictures of the couple as well as a brief video of the engagement ring and the Dingle Peninsula being battered by waves.

The 28 year old’s parents are both from The Kingdom, where she and her three siblings spent their summers as children.

Many others expressed their congratulations on social media.

“Congratulations Louise!” wrote Una Healy. Louise Cooney, an influential person, added: “Congrats guys.”

Declan received his second All Star award that month while serving as Limerick’s captain for the All-Ireland hurling championships in 2018, 2020, and 2021.
