Chaos Erupts at Ang Mo Kio Shop

Singapore – During the early hours of Thursday September 14, six attackers entered a coffee establishment in the neighborhood of Ang Mo Kio and proceeded to slash two guys.

An eyewitness reported to the Shin Min Daily News that he observed multiple bloodstains on the ground as he passed past the 24-hour coffee shop located at Block 232 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 at approximately 6am on the day in question. A few members of the police department were also present at the site.

Later on that day, when they were speaking to a reporter from the Chinese daily, people of the surrounding area reported that they heard shouting downstairs. Officers of the law arrived not long afterward as well.

One local neighbour, who asked not to be identified, stated that they heard police sirens at around four in the morning, in addition to hearing some quick footsteps.

Shin Min was informed by the manager of the coffee shop, Zhang, that she had hurried to the location as soon as she heard about the incident, however, by the time she arrived, the perpetrators of the attack had already fled.

A Brutal Assault

According to Zhang, there were four people—three males and one woman—seating at one of the tables in the coffee shop. All of them were believed to be in their 20s. After some time had passed, the three men got up to go smoke, while the woman remained seated at the table.

After a few moments, two of the males left the group to use the loo. The first person to emerge was a stocky guy wearing a white T-shirt, and he was viciously mauled.

The attack was carried out by a total of six males, according to CCTV footage obtained from surveillance cameras.

A friend of the victim who witnessed the assault made a desperate attempt to flee by hiding in the lavatory. However, their attackers tracked him down and pursued him until they caught up with him in a nearby pavilion. In addition to that, he was cut.

Zhang stated that he went back to the coffee shop at a later time to fetch some water to wash his wounds. “He sat on a chair when he came out of the toilet, but later on he ended up sitting on the floor,” she recounted. “He sat on a chair when he came out of the toilet.”

Shin Min was informed by Pan, an assistant working at the kway chap stand within the coffee shop, that Pan was eating at the time of the incident. He was a witness to the fat man being cut and related that he was so shocked that he was unable to move from his seat during the event.

He further stated that the six suspects ran away from the scene of the attack in a hurry.

Arrests and Charges

On Friday, the police issued a statement saying that they had been informed of a brawl that involved weapons that took place at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

Officers found two injured men at the scene shortly after their arrival, and both of them were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The males, all of whom were 20 years old and knew each other, were reportedly assaulted by a group of other men after a disagreement, according to the findings of the preliminary investigation.

The police have detained six males, ranging in age from 22 to 34, on suspicion that they were involved in an instance of armed rioting that involved potentially lethal weapons.

On Friday, a man in his 30s was charged with the crime of rioting while armed with a lethal weapon in court, and he was held so that additional inquiries could be conducted. On Saturday, an additional five men, all of whom are between the ages of 22 and 34, will be charged in court with the same offence.

According to Section 148 of the Penal Code of 1871, rioting with a lethal weapon carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a caning.

Other customers at the coffee shop kept eating despite the vicious attack. CCTV footage showed that there were seven or eight additional customers who seemed to handle the situation pretty calmly. To avoid the chaos, some of them just shifted to another table.
