Cllr Damien O’Reilly Death At the age of 40
After the tragic and unexpected death of a young Meath councillor, the community associated with Fianna Fáil has been left in a state of shock. On Saturday morning in the village, Cllr Damien O’Reilly, who was 40 years old and from Dunboyne, passed suddenly. It is thought that in the days leading up to his passing, he had been complaining of chest pains.
Since his election to the Meath County Council in 2014, the Cathaoirleach of Ratoath Municipal Council has worked consistently for the people in Meath. He formerly served as a personal assistant in Leinster House for Senator Aidan Davitt, and he has held that position since 2014.

Tommy Reilly, the Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council and a member of the Fianna Fáil party, stated that the young councillor was “destined for the top.”
“I honestly don’t know what to say this morning. Additionally, he was a good buddy of mine, and the other councillors used to joke and refer to him as “my adopted son.” I just can’t get over how startled and upset I am.

He was a hard worker who was always willing to assist everyone who came to him for assistance with anything. He was definitely going places, and the road was paved with success for him in the years to come. In addition to that, he had recently finished his master’s degree in engineering. “Today, Fianna Fáil, Meath, and Dunboyne have suffered a significant loss, and I would like to express my condolences to his mother Phil, his partner Lisa, and the rest of his family.”
Meanwhile, Navan based Senator Shane Cassells said Cllr O’Reilly’s death was being met with devastation across the county by all parties “He was an incredibly popular figure both in the Fianna Fáil family and among councillors in all parties.”
“He was a big poll topper in the last local elections which was a big indicator of the huge respect people had for him. We are all just devastated at the news.”
